Shaker Box with the Chinese Symbol for "Wood"
A very nice size #4 Shaker box with the Chinese symbol for “wood” or “tree.”
Wood is one of the five elements in the natural world. The symbol represents growth, strength, and flexibility.
8.5” long x 6” wide x 3.25” tall.
The side oval band is made of cherry.
The swallowtail fingers are individually hand cut and secured with copper tacks made from 19-century machines.
The top lid is walnut veneer and marquetry techniques were used to create the symbol. The bottom is signed “BBY 2024 cherry walnut ‘wood’”
Boxes are first finished with beeswax, carnauba wax, orange oil, and then two protective coats of polyurethane
